This book would have to be published three years ago just as my housing bust call
on 05/11/2006 in order to be useful as an investment guide for investors.
As of 09/09/2009, Tilson still has the same viewpoints according to his PDF presentation
whereas I had already called the housing bottom on 07/07/2009.
So Tilson and I are both correct in the past but who’s right in the foreseeable future?
It would not take long for everyone to know whether Tilson’s “6 Ways to Profit in These
Bad Times” are good advice or not [in the "not great but not bad either" times ahead].
For the time being, I can only call this 05/11/2009 book a great “history” book at best.

It was a fabulous read .Better than any novel I can remember.I could not put it down. After just finishing the book I have ordered 8 more to give to friends as I believe not only does the book give us a clear picture of what happened but probabaly what will happen.
Both Whitney and Glenn have done a superlative job in their writings and the way they have managed both their Hedge Fund and Mutual Funds.
These are two quality people.

Whitney & Glenn were quick to understand the implications of the data they learned from Amherst Securities and unlike most people, they didn’t keep this valuable information to themselves. Instead, they hosted conference calls and presentations to inform the world of the problems underlying the mortgage industry in the US. This book is a result of that effort. But you also get some very interesting case studies — on companies like American Express and Berkshire Hathaway — that alone are worth the price of the book. Finally, the book has valuable general advice for aspiring investors and short sellers. This is an informative, fact-filled book that’s very pleasant and fun to read.
I suspect this book will become a “period piece” for its great data, explanation, and charts. A must-read.

The first half of more mortgage meltdown does a great job of detailing out the mess we as a country find ourselves in. The data compiled by Amherst did an amazing job of illustrating the situation, and how much further we have to go. I don’t know if I quite agree with the “who’s to blame section”. Life Buffett, Tilson blames the meltdown essentially on…everyone. I was a bit disappointed that he didn’t weight the gov’t incentives (CRA/Federal Reserve) having a bit more to do with the meltdown, but that’s just my personal opinion. The second half (6 ways to profit in these bad times) of the book was more of a how value investors look at analyzing good/not so good investments. Overall, I thought the book and associated website were worth the money, and probably the best book on the subject compared to other books published on the current crisis.
