What is Stock?

You can gain ownership rights of a company by investing in its stock. A stock/share is a unit of your partnership in the company. The value of each share of the company is determined by dividing the total capital investment of the company by the number of shares. For example, if the total value of a company is $100 and the number of shares is five, the value of each share shall be $20. If you own one share, you have 1/5th ownership of the company. If you want to increase/decrease your ownership of its stock, you need to buy/sell its shares. The words ‘stock’,’ share’, or ‘equity’ are generally used to convey the same meaning.

Stock Trading

Stock trading, therefore, means buying or selling the shares of the stock of a company. Stock trading takes place within certain parameters of a system. For example, you cannot directly buy the stock of any company from the company itself. You have to buy and sell its shares through a broker who is registered with the stock exchange where the company is listed. The shares are sold and bought at the market prices prevailing at a given point of time. Again, the price of the stock cannot be determined arbitrarily by the seller or the buyer. It is determined by a combination of certain market forces comprised primarily of supply and demand, which in turn, is linked with performance of the company and so on.

Stock Trading System

As a general practice, it is practically impossible for a person or a group of people to raise the huge amount of capital, which is required to finance a venture. In order to do so, the sponsors of the company make a public announcement of their intent to start a company and invite the general public to buy its shares. The company decides upon the overall capital required to finance the venture, the number of shares or units and the price of each share. It then appoints brokers to receive subscriptions from the public. This first step is called the initial public offer-IPO.

If you cannot buy the company’s stock at the time of its initial offer, you can buy it later on as well, but the price of the share of the company will depend upon its performance and the supply and demand of its shares.

Stocks of various companies are traded at stock exchanges like the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation (NASDAQ) and American Stock Exchange (AMEX).

There are two main types of exchanges, physical and virtual.

Physical Exchange

The NYSE is an example of a physical exchange system where stock trading takes place face to face. In other words, there is a concrete building where the trading actually occurs. Most people may be familiar with the chaotic images of the stock exchanges on TV or in movies. Watch the CNBC television and you will be able to see the ‘crazy guys with the blue jackets frantically wave about the pieces of paper and yell out prices’.

Virtual Exchange

The second type of stock trading exchange system is the virtual exchange. The word ‘virtual’ refers to a computer image of a real situation. The virtual exchanges are like computer networks as they are linked to each other through the Internet. The entire trading in stocks and shares takes place electronically. The NASDAQ, also known as the OTC — over the counter market, is an example of the virtual exchange. Since it is virtual, there is no trading floor like the one at the NYSE. All trading takes place through a computerized network of dealers. The brokers charge commissions both on the sale and the purchase of the shares. The stock of each company is identified by a shorthand code called symbol or a ticker symbol. The symbol usually consists of letters. Sometimes it may be numbers or a combination of letters and numbers, for example, MSFT is Microsoft, C is Citigroup, and GOOG is Google.

Using Software to Organize and Improve Your Stock Investing

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Ever since man invented the computer, it has become an invaluable tool. As more people learn to use the computer and take advantage of its capabilities, it has become a part of our everyday lives. And computer use is growing each year.

With computers in homes, offices and libraries across the country, the majority of people have access to this technology. Many people are turning to different types of computer software to fulfill a variety of needs with regard to finances, household organization and different business ventures. Software is tailored to suite the clientele and make their lives easier.

Today, a great number of people access their banking information online. From one single account, people can enroll other accounts that include utilities and bills for credit cards. You can even schedule payments for insurance premiums and mortgage payments to ensure they are made on time. The financial world has advanced because of computers to improve transactions for consumers so they are safer and more convenient.

As banking accounts became accessible online, so did stock market investments. The shift from person to person trading has been made to a more sophisticated type of online stock trading. Because of this, companies put up their own websites to encourage their clients to perform the majority of their transactions online. Usually these transactions are done by using stock market software.

To gain access to this information, investors may subscribe for free or pay a stated amount for an account through the trading company’s website. When an investor does this, he needs to download and install the particular stock market software used by the company he works with. This is done so the trading company and the subscriber will be using the same platform.

A wide variety of stock market software is available on the market today. This ranges from simple to extremely sophisticated. The majority of these applications offer similar basic features of a graphical user interface (GUI) that help a user to perform one or more said tasks. This type of stock market software is typically intended for use on a large scale. There are also types of software that cater to personal use. For example, investors can install and use personal financial managers on their computers and digital assistants.

Investors can use the software of their preference to manage their accounts and check on the current value of their stocks. This helps online investors because the GUI helps them to quickly and easily perform routine investment tasks.

Trading companies separately purchase stock market software to use for transactions with their clients. Usually these trading companies have an agreement with the software developer so they can use their product at a lower cost. Other companies hire a software developer to design a customized package tailored to their unique needs.

Innovative stock market software offers investors a valuable tool to maximize the potential of their investments. Unlike days gone by, investors have immediate access to any information they want prior to making market investments.

Three Tips For Acquiring The Best Stock Investment Software

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Good stock investment software or that which delivers profitable trading opportunities right to you can make you a great deal of money. Arguably the most difficult and hands down time consuming aspect of investing is the analytical phase, so many traders have embraced stock investment software to handle that for them. As a result, this technology has grown in popularity in recent years, so with all of the new programs available, here are 3 tips for getting the best stock investment software.

Anytime you make any sort of purchase, you typically have or would want to have a money back guarantee available. With stock investment software it’s no different and these days money back guarantees are both a sign of legitimacy in that it’s evidence you’re not dealing with some fly by night publisher, but also it lets you test the program without having to risk any money. A lot of publishers actually encourage that you test their stock investment software before fully committing to it.

When I say test I mean get the program, and then follow a few its stock picks along in the market and watch their performances. I always do this when I’m trying a new program and encourage you to do the same given the importance as well as the ease of this process.

Secondly, I recommend you only go with stock investment software which targets cheap stocks. In my experience they always deliver the picks which go on the largest appreciations and values which only makes sense given their cheaper prices leave them open and more susceptible to outside trading influence which sends them on larger and more frequent upswings.

I recommend getting penny stock specific stock investment software, however, because these programs are specifically made to only target penny stock market data and I stress this importance because it’s a different process looking at cheap stocks versus greater valued stocks, so make sure that its sole purpose is to target and find the best performing penny stocks.

Finally, consult user review sites. Learn what you can about a product if you’re interested in that extra bit of peace of mind. Keeping the money back guarantee in mind, however, typically you will be risking anything if they offer that guarantee in the first place.

Even if you’re fresh off the boat when it comes to stock investing or you don’t have the time to devote to it, if you’re ready to realize your financial independence I highly suggest you give the best?stock investment software out there a chance.

I’ve compiled a review site to share my experiences and reviews on the best systems I’ve used which you can visit by clicking on this link for?stock investment software.

Stock Market Investment Software: A Helpful Trading Tool

Monday, May 10th, 2010

When man invented the computer, it became an invaluable tool to many people who has learned to use it and has become a part of their everyday lives. Many people turn to various types of computer software to suit their needs, and most of these softwares are tailored to the clientele it hopes to accommodate.

Nowadays, many people can access their bank accounts online. From this single account, they can enroll other accounts which may include bills for credit cards, utilities such as electricity and water, and even schedule payments for their insurance premium. These advances in the financial world have helped facilitate better, safer, easier transactions which always benefit consumers.

Similarly, when stock market investments shifted from person to person trading to today’s more sophisticated process of online stock trading, companies began putting up websites to encourage their clients to do most transactions online. This is usually done using stock market investment software.

An investor may subscribe for free or pay a certain amount for an account through his trading company’s website. As he does this, he is required to download and install the stock market investment software that the company is using. This is mostly done so that the subscriber and the trading company use the same investment software.

There is a number of stock market investment software available in the software industry today. They can go from the simple to the highly sophisticated one. Most of these application softwares offer the same basic features of a graphical user interface (or GUI) to help a user perform one or more specific tasks. There are types of these stock market investment softwares that are intended for large scale use and there are types which cater for more personalized usage, as in the case of users installing and using personal financial managers in their personal computers and digital assistants.

Investors mostly use the software of their choice to manage their accounts, and check the value of their stocks. This is very helpful to online investors as the software’s GUI facilitates the tasks that they want to perform.

Stock market investment softwares are purchased separately by the trading companies that use them to transact with their clients. They usually have agreements with the company that developed the software so they could avail of their product at a lower price. Some companies hire stock market investment software developers to design their software so that it is easier to tailor it to their particular needs.
